Now open the project file "Bone-2.c4d"
This shape is irrelevant, as is the pink color I've added.
Click the play button in the time manager so the animation starts to
loop.

Does it look like a finger bending? It would look even more like a finger
if you spent more than 20 seconds modeling it, but that's not what we're
here for.
Now double click the bone icon for bone 1 in the Object Manager.

In the dialog box that pops up you'll notice that the Function box is
set to 1/r^10.

Change this to 1/r^, you don't even have to stop the animation from playing
while you do this.

Now the animation looks more like an elephants trunk. You've just changed
the dropoff rate of the bones influence. Try all the settings in between
to get a good feel of how this works.
The lower numbers will give you smoother bends more appropriate for a rubber hose or a snake while a higher number will put a kink in your model which looks better for elbows and knees.
Also notice if you change the function setting for one of the child bones
it has no effect, this setting is controled by the parent at the top of
the bone heirarchy.
That's it, go do something cool!
